What’s new on HBO and Max in April 2025

HBO and Max have unexpectedly added a very large selection of classic movies in April. That’s going to appeal primarily to the film buffs in your life. There are a handful of recent indie flicks coming as well, including the Nicole Kidman erotic thriller Babygirl and the sci-fi comedy Y2K, which imagines what would have happened if the Y2K bug had been as serious as everyone feared it would be.

The Last of Us season 2 and Hacks season 4 are also giving HBO and Max’s original programming a strong shot in the arm for the month. But don’t sleep on The Rehearsal season 2 or Adult Swim’s new anime sensation, Lazarus. For younger viewers, Gremlins: The Wild Batch is returning with a new batch of episodes from Season 2B.

In the media world, YouTube remains one of the fastest-growing media companies. In 2024, YouTube generated $54.2 billion in revenue, the second-most for a media company besides Disney. That number will only grow as Gen Z favors content creators over streaming television shows.
Speaking of streaming, YouTube has a section dedicated to free movies. These programs are not C-level movies or direct-to-video projects. Some of these movies are critically acclaimed Oscar winners and box office juggernauts. Keep scrolling to see some of our selections for this month.

Amazon may have been a little late turning in its homework this month, but we're giving everything new on Amazon Prime Video in April 2025 a high grade. The selection of new movies added to the Prime Video library, including last year's Oscar contender Conclave, is impressive.

Prime Video also has a strong lineup of originals in April, including The Bondsman, a new series that features Kevin Bacon as a bounty hunter who sends demons back to Hell for Satan. Meanwhile, Viola Davis is an action president in G20, and that's not a joke. Not since Harrison Ford in Air Force One has one of our nation's fictional leaders had to step up to such a challenge largely by themselves.

What’s new on Disney+ in April 2025

It's a rare month on Disney+ when the streamer has new episodes of a Marvel and a Star Wars series. But April is one of those rare occasions. There are two remaining episodes of Daredevil: Born Again, and then Disney+ will dive into Andor season 2 by blowing through the 12 remaining episodes three-per-week.
Doctor Who is also coming back for a new season on Disney+, but perhaps the most exciting news for subscribers is that some of Hulu's content is coming to this streamer regardless of whether subscribers have both services. Clipped, Tell Me Lies, Interior Chinatown, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Reasonable Doubt, and White Collar will be available on Disney+ for no extra charge through at least the end of April. And if this becomes a regular thing, then more Hulu series may show up in May as well.
