Daredevil: Born Again star Charlie Cox shares exciting season 2 update

Marvel fans have had to wait a long time for Daredevil: Born Again, but they won’t have to wait nearly as long for its second season. Per ComicBook.com, Matt Murdock actor Charlie Cox revealed at this year’s FAN EXPO San Francisco that he already knows when he will start shooting new episodes of the forthcoming Disney+ series, and it’s sooner than fans may have expected.

“It’s been so many years since we released any Daredevil content. I’m really excited about it,” Cox said. “By the time we release [Born Again] on March 4, we’ll already be shooting season 2. So it’s just a gift that keeps on giving, really.” The actor’s comment comes less than a week after Marvel unveiled the first official trailer for Daredevil: Born Again.

Cox’s announcement is not only a surprise, but also as an encouraging indicator of Marvel’s confidence in Daredevil: Born Again. The studio’s production schedule suggests that it is happy enough with Daredevil: Born Again to start shooting its second batch of episodes before it has even been able to gauge fans’ reactions to the show’s first season. That’s exciting, especially because of the positive change of pace it represents for a series that has had to take a long, winding road to reach this point.

When Daredevil: Born Again was originally announced in 2022, it was said to be an 18-episode, loose continuation of Netflix’s Daredevil. Filming began nearly a year later in 2023, but production was stopped and delayed by the year’s WGA and SAG-AFTRA labor strikes. In September 2023, Marvel then decided to overhaul Born Again, replacing its initial writing and directing teams and changing the series’ tone and structure and strengthening ties to its beloved Netflix predecessor. All of this means that Marvel fans have been waiting nearly three full years for Daredevil: Born Again, and arguably even longer than that, if you count the four years between Daredevil‘s 2018 cancellation on Netflix and its successor’s original 2022 announcement.

The past seven or so years have been long and sometimes rocky for Daredevil fans, but their long wait for Born Again is nearly over. In case that wasn’t enough, it doesn’t sound like they’ll have to worry now about enduring too long of a gap between the series’ first and second seasons, either.

Daredevil: Born Again season 1 premieres March 4 on Disney+.

Lucasfilm may be in the midst of experiencing a wave of positive attention and success thanks to its latest TV series, Skeleton Crew, but the Jude Law-starring sci-fi show isn't the only Star Wars title that has premiered on Disney+ this year. In a recent interview with Vulture, Disney Entertainment co-chairman Alan Bergman shed some light on the behind-the-scenes decision to cancel The Acolyte after just one season. "As it relates to Acolyte, we were happy with our performance, but it wasn’t where we needed it to be given the cost structure of that title, quite frankly, to go and make a season 2," Bergman revealed. "That’s the reason why we didn’t do that."

Lucasfilm is on the verge of debuting its second live-action Star Wars series of the year, Skeleton Crew. Set after the events of Star Wars: Episode VI — Return of the Jedi, the show follows a group of adventure-seeking kids who end up stranded in space with a starship of unknown origin and are joined on their journey home by a mysterious, potentially untrustworthy adult Force-user (Jude Law). The new series comes from the minds of Christopher Ford and Spider-Man: No Way Home director Jon Watts, and it has the potential to be the Disney+ hit that Lucasfilm has been in desperate need of over the past two years.

As well-suited as it may seem for the studio's Disney+ model, though, Skeleton Crew was originally pitched to Lucasfilm years ago as a movie, Watts recently revealed. "I pitched it right after the first Spider-Man [Homecoming] movie. It was initially pitched to Lucasfilm as a film, and then I had to go make two Spider-Man movies, because the first one did all right," the filmmaker told TVLine. "Over time, [Jon] Favreau made The Mandalorian and Disney+ came into existence, so it evolved, as the Spider-Man movies were being made, into a show."

Andor season 2 will be an even bigger and more expansive space adventure than its predecessor. In a recent interview with Empire, Cassian Andor himself, actor Diego Luna, teased that the critically acclaimed Star Wars series will go to even more places and planets in its second season than it did in its first. "We move in space more than ever — the amount of planets and sets you’re going to get to see," Luna promised. "There are some familiar and new locations."

According to Andor creator Tony Gilroy, the show's sophomore season will even travel to one of the most important locations in Star Wars history: Yavin 4, the moon where the Rebel Alliance's headquarters are stationed during the first Death Star's destruction at the end of Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope. "I mean, we have to end up in Yavin, right?” Gilroy teased. "So, we’ll tell the story of Yavin. No one has quite dealt with Yavin the way we will be doing it.”
