All upcoming PS5 games: 2025 and beyond

The PlayStation 5 has been out for some time now, and its reception has been mostly positive. It includes lots of quality-of-life improvements over its predecessor, the PlayStation 4, such as faster load times, a solid-state drive (SSD) instead of a regular hard disk drive (HDD), and an improved controller in the form of the new DualSense. There’s even the PS5 Pro, which boasts even better performance than the base version. However, a console is only as good as the games available on it and, thankfully, the PS5 has you covered on that front as well.

While the machine already has a worthy library of great PS5 games, there are even more to look forward to — most of the best upcoming video games are going to hit PS5. Some will be completely free PS5 games, some will be PS5 exclusives, and others will be completely cross-platform so you can play with friends on Xbox, PC, and Switch.

One of the greatest surprises during the 2021 PlayStation Showcase was the reveal of Marvel’s Wolverine, a project in development by Insomniac Games. That’s right, the studio is juggling Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and this game simultaneously, which just goes to show how impressive the team is. This one is even earlier in development than Spider-Man 2 and doesn’t have a release window just yet. It’s unclear if it will tie to the Spider-Man games or if it will be its own separate story — though we’re inclined to believe they’ll be connected. The reveal trailer doesn’t give us a glimpse of gameplay, but we can probably expect it to be a third-person action adventure with a large open world to explore. Palworld is finally getting one of its most requested features this month
A palworld person sitting at a campfire in Palworld.

You'll finally be able to play Palworld with friends on other platforms later this month. Developer Pocket Pair announced the news on social media earlier today, along with a surprise discount for PlayStation 5 and Steam players — 25% off for a short time. Pocket Pair also hinted at "some little surprises" in the update, though the team didn't give any clue as to what those might be.

Crossplay is easily one of the most requested features in Palworld since its release in early access in 2024. Fans of the game could only play with others on the same platform as themselves, but now anyone — including players on macOS — can join up to build massive bases, fight off the Syndicate, and take down that pesky Menasting.

The best hero shooters on PS5
A team of heroes in Marvel Rivals.

The hero shooter genre has been around for years but really started hitting its stride in the latest console generation. A lot of the best PS5 games are still narrative-focused games, but more and more of the best FPS games are starting to crack that list, with hero shooters being especially popular. These games give more personality and depth to your normal run-and-gun experience with unique characters that have their own movesets that add new layers to the gameplay. This makes it so games are determined by more than just who has the best aim and reflexes. Thanks to most of them being cross-platform games, hero shooters are easy to jump into and find matches with, but first, you need to find the right one for you. Here are the current best hero shooters you can play on PS5.

There are also a ton of upcoming PS5 games that could be the next big hero shooter phenomenon.

The best video game villains of all time, ranked
Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury

We always establish some level of connection with our player character in games, but it is usually the villain who gets the most time in the spotlight. In many series, it is the villain who remains the constant while the hero changes, building up a rivalry that extends beyond the game itself. What makes a good villain can be a lot of things. They can be especially hard boss fights, have sympathetic goals and motivations, or are just so comically evil that we just love to see them on screen. We've been thwarting some villains since the NES generation, while others are more modern. No doubt we will find even more fantastic villains in upcoming video games, but for now, this is our ranking of the best video game villains of all time.
7. Dr. Wily

Dr. Wily deserves a spot on this list for being one of the first recurring villains on the NES. Each Mega Man game featured a unique cast of robot masters to fight, but the same mad scientist was always behind them going rogue. In the end, we always bested his robots, stormed his castle, and captured him (except for that one time when Mega Man was fed up with it all and tried to murder him). It was always world domination with Wily, and only because his partner got all the glory for their work in robotics. Neither his motivation or goals changed much from game to game, but fighting him at the end was always a treat with all the powers you'd coallected.
6. Bowser
