How to choose PS5 deals on Prime Day

With the PlayStation 5 Pro on its way, gamers will be expecting discounts for the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Slim. Between these two models, the PS5 Slim offers a slightly slimmer design (as you can tell from its name), alongside more storage space at 1TB from the original version’s 825GB. Most gamers would want to go for the PS5 Slim, but if you can score the original PS5 for extremely cheap, that would be a great deal. Additionally, between the all-digital and standard model, you should lean towards getting the one with the disc drive for the option to use physical media.

Once you’ve secured your PS5, it’s time to look for games and accessories. You should check out our list of the best PS5 games for our top recommendations across all the genres. Meanwhile, for accessories, you may want to go for an extra DualSense controller if you want to play couch co-op with a friend or family member, and a gaming headset to communicate with your teammates during online multiplayer matches.

A PS5 sits on a table with a DualSense standing up next to it.

We may be four years into a console generation, but this holiday shopping season is a big moment for players. There are new Xbox models out, the Meta Quest 3S, and the brand new PS5 Pro. You might be tempted to pick up those shiny new items this holiday season, but the hot new thing and the most practical deal aren't always the same thing.

Case in point: the PS5 Pro. If you don't have a PS5 and are looking to pull the trigger this holiday, you may feel pressured to go for what's billed as the most powerful version of Sony's system. Trust me when I say that that's not the way to go. Why spend $700 when you could get a regular PS5 Digital Edition for $375 instead during this year's Cyber Monday?
