Dragon’s Dogma 2’s first updates will tackle its PC performance issues

Capcom revealed what the first updates for Dragon’s Dogma 2 will fix and change following the RPG’s first weekend on the market.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 launched on March 22. While it garnered positive reviews, it also had a bevy of technical issues, particularly on PC. Capcom admitted it was aware of Dragon’s Dogma 2’s optimization problem on the day it launched and is now outlining the first steps being taken to improve things via game updates. On PC, Capcom will release an update that will improve DLSS Super Resolution quality and fix “an issue where models appeared low-quality under some specific settings.”

When it comes to console-specific updates, Capcom will give players the option to toggle motion blur and ray tracing on and off in the options menu, although it admits that this won’t have much impact on the frame rate issues console players are experiencing. For that, players must wait for an update that will allow them to set the frame to “variable” or “max 30fps” in Dragon’s Dogma 2’s options menu.

There are also updates coming to all three versions of Capcom’s RPG. That includes the ability to start a new game when players already have save data, increasing the number of Art of Metamorphosis items at Pawn Guilds, allowing players to acquire property in the game earlier, and other “miscellaneous” text display and bug fixes. Overall, it’s a good start to fixing Dragon’s Dogma 2 post-launch. There’s a great RPG core, but it’s under a lot of technical problems right now.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is available now for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. As for these updates, Capcom says it “will release them as soon as they are ready for distribution on each platform.”

It's my favorite time of the year at Digital Trends. Every time a year ends, I like play prognosticator and predict what's going to happen in video games the following year. If you own a PS5 Pro, Dragon’s Dogma 2 is the game to get during Cyber Week

Dragon's Dogma 2 is one of the most ambitious games to launch this year. While a wealth of technical problems held back that ambition when it was released, the experience is vastly improved on the PlayStation 5 Pro from Digital Trends' testing. As such, I highly recommend that PS5 Pro owners looking for games that take advantage of their new hardware pick up Dragon's Dogma 2 this Cyber Monday. While it typically retails at $70, Dragon's Dogma 2 is discounted to $46 on Amazon for Cyber Week.

Dragon's Dogma 2 is lighter on narrative than most other RPGs as it follows an Arisen on their quest to ultimately defeat a dragon that took their heart but did not kill them. Capcom took that approach because the true value of Dragon's Dogma 2 comes from all of the emergent moments that arise during its quest. This is a tough game, but its combat systems also feature a lot of eccentricities that make every battle feel different.

Between the regular PlayStation 5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S, buying a current-gen console is not as simple as it once was. However, you do need to make the right choice if you want to play the best PS5 games or best Xbox Series games, which is the most important factor in a gaming machine. Sure, many games are now cross-platform, but not all of them. We compared the PS5 to the Xbox Series X already, but what about the S? Let's pit Sony's console against the smaller Xbox and see which one is worth it for you.
PlayStation 5 vs. Xbox Series S: specs
Right off the bat, we need to point out that the PS5 and Xbox Series S are aimed toward slightly different audiences, and their specs do differ a considerable amount. The PS5 is aimed toward a "premium" audience looking for high-end visuals and performance, while the Series S is presented as more of an affordable option to get as many players on board as possible. You'll notice the PS5 is a more powerful system in many ways than the Series S, but that doesn't necessarily mean deciding between the two is easy. When it comes to specs, both offer custom SSDs (solid-state drives), meaning games and apps will load incredibly fast. This is a huge upgrade from the current generation's HDDs (hard disk drives), which are starting to show their age as games become much larger in scope.

The main difference between the two on the surface is that the Series S lacks a disc drive, while the standard PS5 will accept 4K UHD Blu-Ray discs. This could be a major factor for some, especially those with less reliable internet connections. The standard PS5 will cost more than the Xbox Series S, and a lower price point could prove to be the most enticing factor when choosing one over the other.
