The best graphics cards all support ray tracing now, whether you use a recent Nvidia RTX card or AMD Radeon GPU.  We rounded up every game that supports ray tracing on PC now, as well as several titles that will support the sophisticated lighting tech in the future.

Ray tracing is demanding on your graphics card, but the list of ray tracing PC games continues to grow. Although dozens of games support ray tracing, it doesn’t always come in the same form. Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition only uses ray tracing, for example, while Forza Horizon 5 doesn’t have ray tracing in the main game (just in the showroom for your cars). Both are still among the best games to show off your PC, though.

Ray tracing games coming soon

Ray tracing is launching in new games and coming to old ones all the time, so we rounded up ray-tracing PC games that are coming soon. Some of these titles are new releases that will include ray tracing — such as Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered — while others will received a ray tracing update later (like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt).

There are new ray tracing games coming all the time and even more with reported updates in the works. We kept our list to games that are confirmed to have ray tracing, but the list of upcoming games with the tech is likely much larger. Here are some select ray-tracing PC games coming soon:

What you need for ray tracing on PC

Ray tracing isn’t available across the board on PC, even if you’re playing a game with ray tracing support. You need an Nvidia RTX or AMD Radeon RX 6000 or later GPU with the latest graphics card driver installed.

Although ray tracing is a staple of modern GPUs, that doesn’t make it any less demanding. Nvidia offers Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) for its cards to improve performance. On the other hand, AMD has FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR), which works with both Nvidia and AMD cards. We recommend turning on either one of those, if they are available if you want to play a game with ray tracing.

You may want to consider DLSS 3 frame generation, or FSR frame generation too, though those technologies are only supported by a handful of games at the time of writing.

Campers are already setting up for the RTX 5090 release

Tents are already starting to pop up outside of the Tustin, California Micro Center location in anticipation of the RTX 5090 release later this week. As you can read in our RTX 5090 review, it's undoubtedly the best graphics card you can buy, but the campers might not be in it for the frames.

Photos of the campers were shared on the unofficial Micro Center subreddit (spotted by IGN), where two tents are currently set up outside of the Tustin location. Micro Center has discouraged eager customers from camping outside of its locations, though it shared a lengthy video about buying an RTX 5090 or RTX 5080 on release day. In that video, Micro Center says "we suggest coming early."

AMD's new integrated graphics look mighty powerful. According to AMD's marketing materials, the upcoming Ryzen AI Max+ 395 chip with Radeon 8060S integrated graphics is upwards of 68.1% faster than a laptop RTX 4070, which is currently our pick for the best graphics card for laptops.

You can see the results below. AMD tested the Radeon 8060S in a variety of games at 1080p with the High graphics preset. In most games, the margins are tight. However, you can see some significant leads for AMD in titles like Cyberpunk 2077, Baulder's Gate 3, Hitman 3, and especially Borderlands 3, where that 68.1% increase comes from, as highlighted by Notebookcheck.

Doom: The Dark Ages requires a GPU with ray tracing

Doom: The Dark Ages got an official release date today at Xbox's Developer Direct -- and we even had a chance to go hands-on with the game -- and alongside the announcement of a May 15 release, developer id Software released the PC requirements for the game. And similar to Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, which is also built using the idTech engine, it looks like Doom: The Dark Ages will put some heat on even the best graphics cards.

You can see the full system requirements below. You'll need an 8GB graphics card to even run the game, but that's a fairly low bar for a title releasing in 2025. What's interesting is that an 8GB graphics card will only get you 60 frames per second (fps) at 1080p with the Low graphics preset. That's a bit of problem considering otherwise powerful GPUs, such as the RTX 4060 Ti and RTX 3070, are stuck with 8GB of video memory.
